Hotel Ivy Project Description
The goal for the Hotel Ivy event and meeting space refresh was to utilize the hidden potential of a previously undesirable space. The updated axminster carpet provides a significant design statement that tells a story. The design team crafted a fairytale based on the building’s history which served as a guiding design concept through all stages of the project. The “trailing path” created by the abstracted paisley pattern (in combination with decorative lighting) provides an implied path of travel which makes the journey to an event or meeting a recognizable, collectable experience. The transition of large scale pattern to small scale pattern in the secondary prefunction space provides an elegant, impactful, and subtly sophisticated expression that adapts well to a number of meeting and event types. An overarching goal of the project was to leave a lasting impression on the user based on a unique experience within the space. Floors by Beckers installation expertise was challenged with the highly designed Axminster wool carpets and double stick installation methods which required site correction of bowed and skewed patterns. The project truly reflects some of todays most beautifully designed broadloom carpets and old world installation craftsmanship.
